A sleek Vanquish Volante V-12 versus a big, heavy Bentley with a V-8. Easy, right? You have to watch the video to see which one really does win a drag race, it may not be what you think.
In fact, in this race, the Bentley Continental GT V8 wins. Its 4-liter V-8 is turbocharged, but it still has to move a car weighing over 5,000 pounds. Getting the power to the road via four wheels does help.

The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, on the other hand, has a 6-liter V-12. It is a convertible, which isn't great for racing, but is over 1,000 pounds lighter than the Bentley. The Aston Martin is rear-wheel drive.
The result does make sense, when the 0 to 100 km/h numbers mentioned in the video are considered. The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante has a listed time of 5.16 seconds; the Bentley Continental GT V8 is, according to the manufacturer, capable of hitting that speed in 4.7 seconds.
In this case, the race was won and lost at the start. But was it a false start by the Bentley, slow reactions by the Aston Martin, or just the advantage that all-wheel drive provides? You will have to judge for yourself.
